Message from Jyoti and Darlene – October 18, 2017!!
Dear Relatives and Community,
We wanted to take a moment to thank you for all the calls, emails, texts and prayers many have sent during this critical time. As you have heard, a fire storm hit near us and it is still raging. 4500 homes and businesses gone. Over 180,000 acres of land burnt and still it rages. 40 lives lost and up to 200 still missing. We lost internet and phone and are now online in our area. Our community center and community members and their homes are all safe! Some have had to be evacuated, but are safe. We stood ready to leave should the winds shift the direction, and the fires come closer. And now, the winds are slowing and those on the ground putting out the fire say they are beginning to contain it. And for this, we give thanks! That rain is on the forecast, we give thanks! Your prayers are very powerful!! And when we join those prayers, healing happens and miracles make themselves visible. And for this, we give thanks.
Please join your prayers and light your candles, so that we can focus Creator’s Grace on the first responders in the north bay area who are in full service helping in so many ways: fighting fires, feeding and housing those who lost their homes and businesses, getting electricity and water to whole communities, attending the elderly and ill and so much more. Our communities are in shock and still the fire is not contained. So we need your focused prayers. And as the fires are contained, then our communities will be starting the work of rebuilding. And as we have seen in other communities that have survived a catastrophe, we pray for our consciousness to awaken and bring us solutions that will help us rebuild in ways that are more sustainable, eco friendly, and give thought to the next generations to come.
As Mahatma Gandhi said:
Carefully watch your thoughts, for they become your words. Manage and watch your words, for they will become your actions. Consider and judge your actions, for they have become your habits. Acknowledge and watch your habits, for they shall become your values. Understand and embrace your values, for they become your destiny.
What we have seen through this moment of crisis, is the humanity and heart that lives in us all. And that humanity knew no false boundary of age, race, culture or economic class. We have been responding as a family saving lives, opening homes, volunteering and helping to hold those who have lost so much.
As one elder said, “ It is only material things lost. We have our lives. We can rebuild.”
And as Mother Teresa said:
None of us, including me, ever do great things. But we can all do small things, with great love, and together we can do something wonderful.
Let us walk on this good road together carried by our prayers and driven by our vision. As we light our candles, let us ignite the fires within. And let us feed those fires within through global and personal prayer. For the world can be what we dream it! That is when this moment of tragedy is transformed into possibility!! This is how we have begun to birth a new world.
With great humility and love,
