Traditional Herbs and Healing: A talk by Hopi medicine man David Nakyahongva Mowa
David will share his knowledge and relationship to the medicinal plants of his people and bio-region, the high desert plateaus of Hopi and the Arizona desert.
He will talk about his practices, case studies, relationships to Western medical doctors, and more.
The herbs he uses will be available to touch, smell, and taste, and will be available for purchase. Some you may recognize!

David Nakyahongva Mowa is the son of Augustine Mowa Sr. and Tessie Mowa, and belongs to the Sun Clan. He was the Chief of Da-daw-kiva for 16 years.
David Nakyahongva and his family make teas, ointments, and capsules from plants that are gathered traditionally in Hopi and its surrounding bio-region.
His father is the eldest Hopi medicine man, and now in his 90’s, continues to work on the people of his village of Shungopavi, other tribes from neighboring areas, and non-natives from afar.
David travels to Six Nations in Canada four times a year to work on people at a clinic space established for him. This is his 3rd visit to Northern California.
He resides in Shungopavi, 2nd Mesa, and Phoenix, Arizona.
