Sunset Ceremony with Nakyahongva Hopi Medicine Man
Please join us as we meet at Center for Sacred Studies at 6:00pm and go down to our favorite spot down at Johnson’s Beach and be led in a prayer with Nakyahongva Hopi Medicine Man.
David Nakyahongva Mowa is the son of Augustine Mowa Sr. and Tessie Mowa, and belongs to the Sun Clan. He was the Chief of Da-daw-kiva for 16 years.
David Nakyahongva and his family make teas, ointments, and capsules from plants that are gathered traditionally in Hopi and its surrounding bio-region.
His father is the eldest Hopi medicine man, and now in his 90’s, continues to work on the people of his village of Shungopavi, other tribes from neighboring areas, and non-natives from afar.
David travels to Six Nations in Canada four times a year to work on people at a clinic space established for him. This is his second visit to Northern California.
He resides in Shungopavi, 2nd Mesa, and Phoenix, Arizona.
