Earth Guardians Newsletter July 2018
Voice of the Youth News You Can Use
July 2018 NewsLetter
In Washington DC
Young people will have to live the longest with the worst effects of climate change. Many of us are under voting age — so we don’t have any say in the destruction of our earth, but we are paying the biggest consequences. That’s why on July 19th we will flood Capitol Hill in Washington D.C. to tell our elected officials what we need them to do in order for us to have a livable future. Then, on July 21st we will rally in support of climate action and tell adults that this is the Zero Hour for our climate.

A Dope Beat, Inspiring the Heart into Action:
Xiuhtezcatl Roske Martinez
Xiuhtezcatl Roske Martinez is about to drop his first album. A life long dream and goal is coming into fruition on July 27th when his EP “Broken” is released to the public, and then in September when the full album, Break Free drops. Xiuhtezcatl started playing music at age 9, and shortly thereafter made it a lifelong goal to pursue a life colored by making music and sharing it with the world. Nine years later his dream is becoming a reality. Xiuhtezcatl is touching the masses and igniting hearts into direct action via his conscious lyrics and lit beats. He is using his music to bring the message of resistance, revolution and awaking to the public. He is on a mission to shift human consciousness through music, just like his ancestors have done for centuries through ceremonial song and dance. Check out his website xiuhtezcatl.com for his summer tour dates and be on the lookout for his new EP to be released later this month.
Members of Earth Guardians Germany Crew
Our Earth Guardians Germany Crew participated in the European Youth Event (EYE2018) this year, and in doing so, had the opportunity to get in touch with young people from all over the European Union. They interviewed a few participants about environmental issues in their areas, and ways in which they are taking action to make the necessary changes. Their first interview was with a 29 year-old from Greece, who explained that the biggest problem they are facing in his home city of Kalva, in the region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, is air and water pollution. These problems are the result of factories in the surrounding area; and although there are many initiatives from citizens, environmental organizations, and companies, the situation does not seem to be improving. He thinks (and is certainly right) that the EU should apply more stringent conditions and penalties for offenders, such as the factories. Shopping for sustainable fashion can sometimes be a challenge, especially with all of the factors that go into it. You have to do your research to make sure the companies that you are buying from are actually sustainable and not just greenwashing. Luckily, the websites listed below do the work for you, making it easy to search for sustainable products that you can trust. Most conventional companies within the fashion industry are heavy environmental polluters, use sweatshop labor, and utilize a vast amount of fossil fuels and pesticides to produce their fabrics. The websites below have highly vetted the companies they have chosen to promote and sell, so no need to do anymore research! Enjoy high quality fashion that feels good and looks good, without all of the negative implications that comes with the mainstream fashion industry.

We have been running this organization on a proverbial shoestring for a long time – we cannot grow this movement without you! Thanks to a very generous donor, all gifts up to $50,000 will be matched, so you can double your impact by making a donation now. We at Earth Guardians are clear that assisting youth in their efforts to drive change, in their own wise ways, is the path to true transformation. So, we are scaling our work dramatically, in order to support thousands of Earth Guardians, in more than 40 countries, and across the U.S. We are working to keep up with the wave of young people, along with their families, and their teachers & schools, who are stepping up to lead, to carry us through the storm.
